The Boy Scouts of America has always been a uniformed body. There are many reasons for this. One reason stands out above all the rest. We wear the uniform because it is a means of identifying ourselves openly with the principles to which we are committed-character development, citizenship training, and physical and mental fitness. The fact that youth and adult members of Scouting wear a uniform doesn’t mean that we’re all alike. We come from different ethnic and racial backgrounds. We have our own religious beliefs and political views. We are each individuals with our own family traditions and loyalties. So the uniform is not intended to hide our individuality. But it is a way we give each other strength and support. It is a bond that ties us together in spite of our differences. It is a way of making visible our commitment to a belief in God, loyalty to country, and to helping other people. The Scouting movement is built on positive values. As we wear the uniform, we are openly identifying ourselves with those values where everyone can see us. We stand together, not alone, in encouraging others to live by those same principles. Boys and adults alike should take pride in belonging to such a movement and wear the uniform as it is intended.

Pack 37 furnishes a “Class B” or Pack T shirt as part of your dues. We recommend a “waste up” Class A uniform that includes your shirt, hat, neckerchief, slide and belt. We do not recommend you purchase the $6.00 socks or $25.00 pants however you may if you like. In the sprit of a scout is “thrifty” many boys find blue shorts or pants much cheaper elsewhere.

The Great Lake Allatoona Clean Up

On September 18th 2010, the Lake Allatoona Preservation Authority (LAPA) will host the 25th Annual Great Lake Allatoona Cleanup (GLAC). Thousands of volunteers from the Lake Allatoona watershed will cover hundreds of miles of Lake Allatoona and Lake Acworth shoreline in this one-day event that celebrates National Public Lands Day.

Last year over 4200 volunteers collected over 42 tons of trash, debris and tires from over 250 miles of shoreline in an effort that provides environmental stewardship to this valuable resource. Our volunteers consist of boy & girl scouts; lease holders around the lake; private clubs; marinas; boaters; fishermen; environmentalists and families that are vigilant in wanting to improve the water quality and protect the quality of life around Lake Allatoona.

Cub Scouting: New Delivery Method

Beginning September 2010, Cub Scout den and pack meeting will use a New Delivery Method, originally known as Cub Scouts 2010. Replacing the traditional den and pack meeting model of using monthly themes, den meeting activities will now center around advancement requirements. As a result, new program materials have been written and the current version of Cub Scout Leader Position-Specific Training is being revised to address these program changes.

Den & Pack Meeting Resource Guide (online) – new – *see note below
Cub Scout Leader Book – revised
Webelos Leader Guide – revised
2010-2011 Cub Scout Roundtable Guide – new – Roundtable program will now focus on the core values of Cub Scouting rather than monthly themes.

* The Den and Pack Meeting Resource Guide is available online in two forms: a no-fee download of individual den and pack meeting plans via the National web site, or a for-fee download of the full publication via www.scoutstuff.org.

The Boy Scouts of America relies on dedicated volunteers to promote its mission of preparing young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetime by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Scout Law. Today, nearly 1.2 million adults provide leadership and mentoring to Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, and Venturers.

Through the dedication of these many volunteers, the Boy Scouts of America remains the foremost youth program of character development and values-based leadership training in America.

To these volunteers we would like to say thank you for your dedication to Scouting.

And, to adults who are not currently Scout volunteers, we invite you to become a volunteer and share in the positive experiences of the Scouting programs.

Organized camping is a creative, educational experience in cooperative group living in the outdoors. It uses the natural surroundings to contribute significantly to physical, mental, spiritual, and social growth. Camping contributes to good health. Camping helps campers develop self-reliance and resourcefulness. Camping enhances spiritual growth. Camping contributes to social development. Camping is an experience in citizenship training. Camping at the Cub Scout level introduces boys to the knowledge and skills that they will learn and apply more thoroughly as a Boy Scout. Cub Scouting offers camping opportunities for Cub Scouts through day camps, resident camps, Webelos den overnight campouts, council-organized family camps, and pack overnighters.
